The FR1NR3AS is a hardened steel locking nut in an antique silver finish, part of the Floyd Rose 1000 Series. It clamps the strings at the headstock end of the neck so the nut end of the string is fixed — a prerequisite for any floating tremolo to return to pitch. Without a functioning locking nut, tuning stability under heavy tremolo use is not possible.

Fit is decided by two measurements: the width of the nut slot in your neck and the radius of your fretboard. Floyd Rose designates nut width by size code — R2, R3, R4 and so on — and the R3 in this part number refers to one specific width. A nut that is even slightly too wide or too narrow will push the outer strings toward the edge of the fretboard or crowd them together. A radius that does not match your board leaves the outer strings sitting proud of the nut face, which buzzes and will not clamp evenly. Do not order from the guitar model name alone. Pull the existing nut and measure the slot width and your board radius before ordering.

The nut body is hardened steel. Softer alloys wear at the string contact points over time, particularly under the clamping blocks, which allows small amounts of movement that a floating bridge cannot compensate for. Hardened steel resists that wear. The antique silver finish matches 1000 Series hardware.
